Designation of Local Landmarks and Rezoning

HISTORIC_2Within the past two years, the city's Historical Preservation Commission has designated several homes and structures as Local Landmarks. Bronze plaques have been presented to the homeowners or the city for display on the property, indicating the designation. These presentations have taken place publicly at City Council meetings. Local landmarking does not affect homeowners' rights in any way, but is given as recognition for preserving and maintaining the historic integrity of their property. The Commission has also been active in rezoning certain blocks on West College from multiple family dwellings to a maximum of two family dwellings. This helps to keep the homes truer to their original design. Similar plans are in the works for West State Street.
